The family of Clive Swift has announced that the actor has passed away on February 1st 2019, eight days prior to his 83rd birthday. The actor was best known for his portrayal of Richard Bucket in Keeping up Appearances, alongside Dame Patricia Routledge.
Mr. Swift was born February 9th, 1936 in Liverpool to Abram Sampson and Lily Rebecca Swift. His older brother, David, was also an actor.
Mr. Swift acted with the Royal Shakespeare Company, including a film adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Diana Rigg, Helen Mirren and Ian Richardson.
While he would appear as a guest star is television shows such as Bless Me, Father, Doctor Who, and Inspector Morse, it was as Richard Bucket in Keeping Up Appearances that he is most famous for. From 1990 to 1995 his character would be henpecked by his wife Hyacinth, played by Dame Patricia Routledge. He would later appear in Born and Bred, and The Old Guys.
Mr Swift was married from 1960 to 1975 to Margaret Drabble. They had three children together, sons Adam and Joe, and one daughter, Rebecca. He passed away after a short illness.
