Peter Sallis Passes Away at 96

Peter Sallis, the actor famous for his performances in the series Last of the Summer Wine and as the voice of Wallace in Wallace and Gromit, has passed away at the age of 96.

Mr. Sallis died peacefully on Friday June 2nd, 2017 with his passing being announced by his agent on June 5th.

Mr. Sallis was known to many in the United Kingdom, and elsewhere, for appearing as Norman Clegg in the comedy series Last of the Summer Wine which ran from 1973 to 2010.  He was the only actor to appear in all 295 episodes of the series.

He was also the original voice of Wallace in the Wallace and Gromit series from 1990 until his retirement from acting in 2011.

Mr. Sallis was born February 1st, 1921 in Twickenham, Middlesex in the United Kingdom.  He was the only child of Harry and Dorothy Sallis.  He would serve in the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War.

Mr. Sallis was married to actress Elaine Usher from 1957 until their final break-up in 1983.  The had one child, Academy Award nominated set designer Crispian Sallis.  He would suffer from macular degeneration in later life.

Mr. Sallis was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2007 for services to Drama.
