The Senate is under scrutiny as it looks into whether or not it should suspend three of its members – namely Senators Patrick Brazeau (Quebec), Mike Duffy (P.E.I.), and Pamela Wallin (Saskatchewan).
I would state that it is time that the Senate step down and show that it respect the taxpayers of this country and suspend these three Senators without pay for their actions. If the Senate takes too long to make a decision, or refuses to take action, it would make the Senate look worse then it does at the moment.
However, I believe that Senators Brazeau, Duffy, and Wallin should do the honourable thing and simply resign. This would be less embarrassing for them then to be suspended without pay, but also shows that they have some integrity.
All three Senators are under investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (R.C.M.P.) for their expense claims, and while charges may or may not be filed at some point in the future, these three Senators have shown that they unwilling to accept any responsibility for their actions. By refusing to resign it only makes their position look worse, especially from former journalists Mike Duffy and Pamela Wallin.
It is time for these Senators to resign and for the Senate to have the Auditor General review its expense accounts going forward. The time to make the Senate accountable for how it spends its money has come, and for the Senators under scrutiny to resign.
