Team Canada Announces World Juniors Team

Team Canada has announced its’ team for the 2025 World Junior Hockey Tournament set to run from Boxing Day (December 26th, 2024) to January 5th, 2025 in Ottawa, Ontario.

Team Canada is looking to rebound after finishing in 5th Place at last year’s tournament held in Gothenburg, Sweden. Prior to that, Team Canada had created yet another dynasty when it won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023 and four titles in the previous six years.

The team has won 35 total titles in the history of the tournament: 20 Gold, 10 Silver, and 5 Bronze.

2024 Etobicoke Lakeshore Santa Claus Parade

The 2024 edition of the Etobicoke-Lakeshore Santa Claus Parade was held December 7th, 2024.

The parade ran along Lake Shore Blvd. W. between Dwight Ave. and Long Branch Ave. in the New Toronto and Long Branch neighbourhoods of south Etobicoke and featured floats, bands, community groups, Mrs. Claus, and Santa Claus. Santa even had a new float for this year’s parade.

Quick Trip to London

I mad a quick trip to London, Ontario on November 25th, 2024 to try out VIA Rail’s new Venture trains.

Overall, I am impressed with the cars, especially the signs that tell passengers what the upcoming stops are, how fast the train is going, etc.

I wasn’t able to get a lot of interior pictures as the trains had a good number of passengers on them.

Toronto Celebrates Argonauts 19th Grey Cup

On November 19th, 2024 the City of Toronto celebrated the Toronto Argonauts (‘Argos’) 19th Grey Cup victory two days earlier.

On November 17th, Vancouver, British Columbia hosted the 111th Grey Cup game between the Argos and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Argos came back from a 10-9 deficit at half time to win 41-24. The win marked the Argos 19th Grey Cup title, more than any other team in Grey Cup history.

Toronto: The City of Champions (Updated)

The Toronto Argonauts have just won their 19th Grey Cup with their 41-24 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 111th Grey Cup. It is a reminder to me of how successful Toronto teams can be.

Toronto has had many successful sports teams of the years, both current and past.  Current sports teams include the Toronto Argonauts, Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leafs (both the hockey team and the baseball team), Toronto Marlies, Toronto Raptors, Toronto F.C., and Toronto Rock.  Past teams include the Toronto Marlboros (also known as the ‘Marlies’), Toronto Blizzard, Toronto Huskies, Toronto Roadrunners, and Toronto Toros.

Remembrance Day 2024

Today, November 11th 2024, we mark Remembrance Day in Canada and the sacrifices made by our military during the many conflicts Canada has been involved in.

Canadians have a long tradition of joining its allies in conflicts when required and to successfully fight in many difficult situations in order that we all may enjoy the freedoms that we enjoy today.

35 Years Since the Fall of the Berlin Wall

Today, November 9th, 2024, marks the 35th Anniversary of the fall of The Berlin Wall and the beginning of the end of Communist rule in Germany and the rest of eastern Europe.

The Berlin Wall was constructed in 1961 to divide East Berlin and West Berlin.

Pete Rose Passes Away at 83

Famed baseball player Pete Rose has passed away on September 30th, 2024.

Pete Rose, also known as ‘Charlie Hustle’, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 14th, 1941 to Harry Francis and LaVerne Rose.

He would play football and baseball growing up, but ended up going into baseball.

He would join his hometown Cincinnati Reds during the 1963 season. Over the next 24 years he would play for three different teams: the Cincinnati Reds (1963-1978, 1984-1986), the Philadelphia Phillies (1979-1983), and the Montreal Expos (1984), as well as serving as the Reds’ Manager from 1984-1989.

Dame Maggie Smith Passes Away

Famed British actress Dame Maggie Smith has passed away in London, U.K. at the age of 89.

Dame Maggie was born in Ilford, Essex on December 28th, 1934.

She would begin her career in acting at 17 as Viola in Twelfth Night with the Oxford University Dramatic Society. In 1957, she starred in Share My Lettuce alongside Kenneth Williams.

Dame Maggie became famous when she starred in the movie, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1969. She would late become well known, again, for her roles as Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter movies and as Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham in the TV series (and movies), Downton Abbey.
