With the All-Star game tonight in Minnesota, let’s look at the Toronto Blue Jays so far this season.
The Blue Jays have played 96 games so far this season and have a record of 49-47, good for second place in the American League East, and four games back of the Baltimore Orioles and 2.5 games back of the Seattle Mariners for a wild card spot. The New York Yankees have released veteran left fielder and second baseman Alfonso Soriano. Mr. Soriano had been designated for assignment on July 6th, 2014.
Alfonso Soriano is a seven time All-Star (2002-2008), four time Silver Slugger award winner (2002, 2004-2006), two time World Series Champion (1999, 2000), two time American League Player of the Month (April 2003, September 2003), one time National League Player of the Month (June 2007), MLB All-Star MVP (2004), American League stolen base leader (2002), and a member of the 40-40 club (joining in 2006 and only the fourth member to do so.) The finals for the 2014 FIFA World Cup are now set. So let’s look at the two final matches:
In the third place game, host country Brazil takes on the Netherlands. Brazil was badly beaten 7-1 by Germany in their semifinal match. The Netherlands lost 4-2 in penalty shots to Argentina after their game ended 0-0 after extra time. The two countries have played 11 matches at the World Cup with three wins each and five draws. In those 11 matches, both teams have scored 15 times. Brazil is the #3 team in the world, while the Netherlands are ranked #15. Netherlands have only lost one game at this tournament, in the semifinals. Prior to their lose to Germany, Brazil’s worst game was a draw. Continue reading

It has announced that the late Pat Burns will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on November 17th, 2014 as a member of the Class of 2014.
As an NHL coach, Mr. Burns coached 1,019 games and winning 501 games. Mr. Burns coached the Montreal Canadiens (1989-1992), Toronto Maple Leafs (1992-1996), Boston Bruins (1997-2001), and New Jersey Devils (2002-2004).
Mr. Burns would win the Stanley Cup in 2004 with New Jersey, while leading Montreal to the Stanley Cup finals in 1989, his first season coaching in the NHL. Continue reading
