On this day in 1945, the Second World War (WWII) came to an end with the surrender of Nazi Germany after almost six year of fighting.

The second round of the 2025 NHL playoffs are now set and will begin today.

Eastern Conference
Florida Panthers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
The Panthers beat Tampa Bay in the first round while the Maple Leafs beat Ottawa. This is the second meeting in the playoffs, with the Panthers winning their first match-up in 2023. The Panthers won three of four games in the regular season. Look for the Maple Leafs to win in six games.
On April 28th, 2025 Canada held the 45th General Election in its’ history in order to elect members of the House of Commons.

The result was a fourth straight term in office for the Liberals, and a third straight minority. 343 seats were up for election and the seat distribution breaks down as follows:

Today, April 24th 2020, VIA Rail’s flagship train, The Canadian, turns 70 years old.
On April 24th, 1955 the Canadian Pacific Railway began running The Canadian on a daily schedule between Toronto/Montreal and Vancouver. The train ran from Vancouver, British Columbia to Sudbury, Ontario where it would be split into two sections with one section going to Montreal, Quebec, and the other going to Toronto, Ontario.
VIA Rail would take over operation of The Canadian in 1979 when it took over passenger operations from the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Canadian National Railway.

The building was originally built in the 1950’s at the Lakeshore Teachers’ College. The college remained in operating from the 1950’s until the mid-1970’s when Humber College took over the building.

Mr. Foreman was born George Edward Foreman on January 10th, 1949 in Marshall, Texas.

He would win the Gold Medal as a heavyweight in the 1968 Summer Olympics before turning professional in 1969.
