Alex Trebek has Passed Away at 80

Alex Trebek, the long time host of Jeopardy! has passed away at the age of 80 after a 20 month fight with pancreatic cancer.

Mr. Trebek was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada on July 22nd, 1940 and grew up speaking both official languages of Canada – English and French.  He would graduate from the University of Ottawa with a degree in Philosophy.

His first break was with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) filling in for other announcers.

From 1971 to 1972, he hosted the local morning talk show on the CBC Toronto radio station. Continue reading →

Geoffrey Palmer has Passed Away

Famed actor Geoffrey Palmer has passed away at the age of 93.  He was born on June 4th, 1927 in London England.

Sir Sean Connery has Passed Away at 90

Famed Scottish actor Sir Sean Connery has passed away at the age of 90.

Sir Sean was born on August 25th, 1930 in Edinburgh, the son of Joseph Connery and Euphemia “Effie” McBain McLean.  He is also part Irish.

October 31st Declared John Candy Day in Toronto

October 31st, 2020 has been declared ‘John Candy Day’ in Toronto in honour of what would have been the comedian’s 70th birthday.

John Candy was born on October 31st, 1950 in Newmarket, Ontario, and grew up in East York, now part of the City of Toronto.  He came to fame as a comedian as a member of the Canadian version of the SCTV series.

2020 World Series

The 116th World Series is set to start tonight, October 20th, 2020 between American League Pennant winners, the Tampa Bay Rays, and the National League Pennant winners, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this will be the first ever World Series to use a neutral site – Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and only the second time that all games will be played in one stadium. Continue reading →

Happy Thanksgiving

As this is the second Monday in October, I would like to wish everyone in Canada a Happy Thanksgiving.

This may be a very different type of Thanksgiving this year, I do think we need something nice to celebrate.

Thanksgiving traditionally marks the end of the harvest season in Canada and has been celebrated in Canada since 1879 and the date varied each year until 1957.

Expansion of Condominium Authority Tribunal’s Powers in Ontario

The Condominium Authority of Ontario (CAO) has announced that starting today, October 1st 2020, that the Condominium Authority Tribunal (CAT) can now hear cases revolving more than just issues relating to condominium records.

The Tribunal can now hear cases dealing with pets in condominiums, vehicles & parking related issues, storage issues, and compensation with regards to these issues.

John Turner has Passed Away

Former Canadian Prime Minister John Turner has passed away at the age of 91.

Mr. Turner was born in in London, England on June 7th, 1929.  His family would move to Canada in 1932 after the death of his father.  His mother was Canadian, settling first in British Columbia, and then in Ottawa. Continue reading →

Ruth Bader Ginsburg has Passed Away at 87

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the United States Supreme Court has passed away at the age of 87.
