Famed Bahamian-American actor Sidney Poitier, KBE has passed away at the age of 94, a month prior to his 95th birthday.
Mr. Poitier was born on February 20th, 1927 in Miami, Florida to Reginald James and Evelyn Poitier who were farmers on Cat Island in The Bahamas.
Continue reading2021 has come to an end, so I would like to present my annual ‘Year in Review’.
2021 has become a second straight ‘Annus Horribilis’ as we have dealt with the COVID pandemic. This included lockdowns and restrictions during the second and third waves of the pandemic and the fourth wave continuing to cause concern. While many have been vaccinated, and booster shots being given out towards the end of the year, the country is still dealing with the effects of the pandemic.
2021 still managed to be a busy year, though.

Famed actress Betty White has passed away at the age of 99.
Ms. White is well known as Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and as Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls and The Golden Palace, as well as Elka Ostrovsky on Hot in Cleveland.
Ms. White’s career spanned almost her entire life, starting out in radio at the age of 8. She then transitioned over to television as she got older.

South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu has passed away at the age of 90.
Archbishop Tutu was born October 7th, 1931in Klerksdorp, South Africa to Zachariah Zelilo Tutu and his wife, Allen Dorothea Mavoertsek Mathlare.
He would become a teacher in 1951, prior to becoming an Anglican priest. He would be ordained in December 1960.

Continue readingTeam Canada recently announced its’ roster for the 2022 World Juniors, which start Boxing Day.

Team Canada opens up the tournament on Boxing Day against the Czech Republic and today is starting pre-tournament play. As part of Group A, we will also be playing Austria, Finland, and Germany.
The team is looking for revenge after last year’s Silver Medal. The team went undefeated until the Gold Medal Game, which we lot 2-0 to the USA.

Today, November 12th, 2021, marks the 90th Anniversary of the opening of Maple Leaf Gardens.
The Gardens was built by Conn Smythe to be the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team and would be owned by the company formed to run both the team and arena, Maple Leaf Gardens Limited.

On November 12, 1931, the Maple Leafs would host the Chicago Blackhawks, officially opening the Gardens.
Continue readingToday, November 11th 2021, we mark Remembrance Day in Canada and the sacrifices made by our military during the many conflicts Canada has been involved in.

Canadians have a long tradition of joining its allies in conflicts when required and to successfully fight in many difficult situations in order that we all may enjoy the freedoms that we enjoy today.
2021 also marks the 100th Anniversary of the Remembrance Poppy in Canada.
