Tim Curry Passes Away

English actor and singer Tim Curry has passed away.

Mr. Curry was born on April 19th, 1946 in Grappenhall, Cheshire. His parents were James Curry, a chaplain in the Royal Navy and Patricia, a school secretary.

He studied at the University of Birmingham, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1968.

Mr. Curry’s first main role was in the original production of Hair in 1968. He would find success as Dr Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, thanks to author Richard O’Brien writing the role for him.

In 1980, he would star as Mozart in the original Broadway production of Amadeus, directed by Sir Peter Hall.

In 1987 and 1988, he starred in the lead role of Bill Snibson in the American National Tour of Me and My Girl, playing the role that Robert Lindsay originally appeared in during its’ Broadway premiere.

In the late 1980s, he moved to the U.S. and started appearing in Hollywood movies.

Mr. Curry is probably best remembered for his role as the Plaza Hotel‘s concierge in 1992’s Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

Other movies incldued Loaded Weapon 1, Muppet Treasure Island, The Hunt for Red October, and the 1993 verion of The Three Musketeers. He also starred in the direct-to-film movie Addams Family Reunion as Gomez Addams.

In 2001, he would star as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol that was put on at Madison Square Garden.

During his career, Mr. Curry won a Royal Variety Club Award for Stage Actor of the Year in 1982 for The Pirates of Penzance, the same production which earned him one of his two Laurence Olivier Award nominations. He would also win a Daytime Emmy Award for ‘Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Series‘ in 1991 for Peter Pan and the Pirates, and a WhatsOnStage Award for ‘Best Actor in a Musical‘ when he played King Arthur in Spamalot (he would earn on of his three Tony Award nominations for the same musical.) Mr. Curry died at home in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles, on 25 August 2026 at the age of 80. He had a stroke in 2012 and been dealing with health related issues over the last several years.
