Legendary newsman Lloyd Robertson has passed away.

He was born January 19th, 1934 to Lillie Francis and George Henderson Robertson in Stratford, Ontario. He had nine siblings.

He would start working radio in 1952 on CJCS. He would go onto working for the CBC switching over to television and evenutally hosting CBC Weekend in the late 1960s. From 1970 to 1975, Mr. Robertson was the anchor for The National. He left in 1976 as he wasn’t allowed to write his own scripts, choose any stories to report on or doing any reporting in the field.

Mr. Robertson jumped over to CTV in 1976 co-anchoring the CTV National News from 1976 to 1984, then acting as senior anchor from 1984 until 2011. He would also co-host W5 from 2004 until his retirement in 2016.

With CTV, he would oversee the coverage of 11 federal elections, both Quebec referendums, the September 11th, 2001 terror attacks, the 1985 Air India bombing, and the 1989 Montreal massacre amongst other stories.

Mr. Robertson was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1998. He would win three Gemini Awards (1992, 1994, 1997) for “Best Host, Anchor, or Interviewer”.

Mr. Robertson was married to Nancy Barrett, and had four children and seven grandchildren.
