With 2023 coming to an end, I’d like to review this year. It was a very busy year, one with happy events, but also with sad events.
2023 came in with the 25th Anniversary of Metropolitan Toronto and six local municipalities coming together to form the current City of Toronto.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine, started in 2022, has continued throughout 2023. Then on October 7th, 2023, the Israel-Hamas War.
January saw former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario David Onley passes away and the funeral for Pope Benedict XVI. Team Canada also created a dynasty at the World Junior Ice Hockey tournament, winning its’ second straight Gold Medal and third in four years.

In February, my blog turned 10 years old, I attended a performance of Pressure at The Royal Alex starring Kevin Boyle, and Gordon Pinsent passed away.
In March, I attended a performance of Wagner’s Lohengrin as part of The Met’s Live in HD series and the Blue Jays announced their opening day roster. Japan won the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
April saw me attend the opening performance of Macbeth at the COC. Nuclear power in Germany ends after 50 years.
May saw the Coronation of King Charles III as King of the United Kingdom, Canada, and 13 other realms, plus a ceremony that I attended at Queen’s Park in Toronto. I also attended a performance of Puccini’s Tosca at the COC.

In June, Kevin Gausman Netted his 1,500th strikeout in Loss to San Francisco Giants. Titan, a deep-sea submersible exploring the wreck of the Titanic, suffers a catastrophic implosion which resulted in the loss of life of all five crew members.
I also caught the June 21st and June 28th. 2023 departures of The Canadian from Toronto:
The late spring and early summer of 2023 saw a large number of forest fires break out in Canada. The fires resulted in poor air quality in many parts of the country and into several parts of the USA, including New York City.
In July, Canada Celebrated 156 Years of Confederation.
August saw the passing of Hugh Segal, and Former Ontario Lieutenant-Governor James Bartleman. Also, the 2023 Warriors’ Day Parade took place at the CNE.
In September, I went for a walk in Humber Bay Promenade Park on Labour Day:
And I made a quick trip to Niagara Falls:
I went to see Fidelio at the COC in October. On October 3rd, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, is removed from the position via a motion to vacate the position, the first time this has occurred in the history of the USA. Three weeks later, Mike Johnson is elected Speaker.

In November, a new statue of Queen Elizabeth II was unveiled at Queen’s Park in Toronto, and after a 28 year absence, the 507 Long Branch Streetcar returned as a separate route. I also wrote in support of hybrid meetings in Condominiums.
November also marked the 60th Anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

December saw Santa Claus Parade in South Etobicoke, and Norman Lear passed away.
