Famed Canadian actor Gordon Pinsent has passed away at 92.
Mr. Pinsent was born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland to Stephen Arthur Pinsent and Florence Pinsent on July 12th, 1930.
Mr. Pinsent got his professional break in Winnipeg in 1957 and would include appearances at the Stratford Festival in Macbeth, The Taming of the Shrew, The Tempest and Cyrano de Bergerac. He would go on to appear on TV, on stage, and in movies for decades, including in Away from Her, The Rowdyman, John and the Missus, A Gift to Last, Due South, The Red Green Show, and Quentin Durgens, M.P.
He was also the voice of Babar in animated series, Babar the Elephant.
He would also received international attention for a sketch on This Hour Has 22 Minutes when he read Justin Bieber’s autobiography.
Mr. Pinsent was made an Officer in the Order of Canada, and was later promoted to Companion in 1998. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
Mr. Pinsent died in sleep at home in Toronto on February 25th, 2023.
