Adam West Passes Away at 88

Adam West, famous for his portraying the title character in the Batman TV series, has passed away in Los Angeles at the age of 88.

Mr. West was born September 19th, 1928 in Walla Walla, Washington whose father was a farmer and mother an opera singer and concert pianist. 

He would star out in minor guest roles in many television shows including Overland Trails, Johnny Midnight, The Outer Limits, The Rifleman, and The Real McCoys.

He also had minor roles in films, including The Young Philadelphians, Soldiers in the Rain, Robinson Caruso on the Mars, and the Three Stoogies last film – The Outlaws is Coming.

However, it was in 1966 when he got his big break, beating out Lyle Waggoner for the role of Batman in producer William Dozier‘s television series, Batman which ran from 1966 to 1968 and included a full length movie.

After Batman finished, Mr. West made several guest appearances as Batman, but continued to act, appearing in movies such as 1971’s The Marriage of a Young Stockbrocker,1972’a The Curse of the Moon Child, 1975’s The Specialist, and 1983’s One Dark Night. Mr. West also appeared in television films such  as The Eyes of Charles Sand, Poor Devil, For the Love of It, and I Take These Men.

He would continue to guest star on television as well with appearances on such hit shows as Maverick, Laverne and Shirley, Bonanza, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Bewitched.

He would star in the short lived television series, The Last Precinct as Captain Rick Wright.

In 2003, Mr. West would appear in the television movie, Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt with fellow Batman co-stars Frank Gorshin, Julie Newmar, and Lee Meriwether.

Mr. West would receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012, two years after he received a Golden Palm Star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.

Mr. West was married three times and had six children.

He passed away on June 9th, 2017 after a battle with leukemia.
