Long time Montreal Expos outfielder Tim Raines has been elected to Baseball’s Hall of Fame.  He was elected to the the Hall of Fame in his tenth, and final, year of eligibility to be elected.

Tim Raines played for six teams from 1979 to 2002, but is remembered in large part for his two stints with the Montreal Expos, from 1979 to 1990 and again in 2001.  He would also play for the Chicago White Sox (1991-1995), New York Yankees (1996-1998), Oakland Athletics (1999), Baltimore Orioles (2001), and Florida Marlins (2002.)

During his 23 year career, Mr. Raines played in 2,605 games with a career .294 batting average.  He hit 170 homeruns, and 980 RBIs.  He had a .385 on-base percentage, along with a .425 slugging percentage.

Mr. Raines would pick up at least 70 stolen bases during his first six full seasons (1981-1986), leading the National League in stolen bases every season from 1981-1984.  He would steal a personal best 90 bases in 1983.

Mr. Raines holds 10 Expos records: single-season record for plate appearances (731 in 1982), single-season record for runs (133 in 1983), career record for runs (947), single-season record for triples (13 in 1985) – shared with Rodney Scott and Mitch Webster, career record for singles (1,163), career record for triples (82), career record for walks (793), career record for times on base (2,440), career record for stolen bases (635), and career record for runs created (1,047).

He was named to the All-Star game in seven straight seasons (1981-1987), all with the Montreal Expos, and was a three time National League MVP recipient (1983, 1986, and 1987.)

He was previously elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2013.
