Jeremy Lloyd has Passed Away

Jeremy Lloyd, OBE, has passed away at the age of 84.  Mr. Lloyd was a well known comedy writer.  his agent announced that he passed away of pneumonia in hospital.

Mr. Lloyd, along with David Croft, wrote such famous comedy series as Are You Being Served? and ‘Allo, ‘Allo!.

Prior to becoming a successful writer of comedy series, Mr. Lloyd was an actor, appearing for a season in Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, as well as a few movie appearances – such as A Hard Day’s Night, and The Magic Christian.

His first success as a write came with Are You Being Served? which ran from 1972-1985 and its two spin-offs, Grace and Favour, and Come Back Mrs Noah.  Mr. Lloyd would also find success with ‘Allo, ‘Allo! which ran from 1982-1992.  Mr. Lloyd with producer David Croft on all four series.

Are You Being Served? was partly based on Mr. Lloyd’s experience working in a department store for a few years, and was about a fictional London department store.

‘Allo, ‘Allo! was set in France during the Second World War.  The series was about a cafe owner who was reluctant member of the French Resistance.

Mr. Lloyd was awarded an OBE in 2012 for his work.

Mr. Lloyd was married three times, first to Dawn Bailey (1955-1962), then to actress Joanna Lumley for a short period of time, and then to Elizabeth Moberly who he married shortley before his death.
