Team Canada has announced its roster for the Men’s team at the upcoming Olympic games in Sochi Russia.

The team sees 11 members of the 2010 Gold Medal winning team again representing Canada.  Nine players have won the Stanley Cup, and some of them have won the Cup on more than one occasion.  Many players have also won multiple medals, especially Gold Medals, at the World Championships and the World Junior Championships.  This team is comprised of players who are used to winning.

The team consists as follows:

Goalies

• Roberto Luongo – two time IIHF World Championship Gold Medallist (2003, 2004), Olympic Gold Medal (2010), Gold Medal at the 2004 World Cup,  2005 Silver Medal at the World Championships, four time NHL All Star, two time Second All-Star team.

• Carey Price -Gold Medal in the 2007 World Junior Championship, Silver Medals at the 2005 IIHF World U18 Championship and the 2004 World U17 Championship.

• Mike Smith – Goaltender for the Phoenix Coyotes.

Defensemen

• Dan Hamhuis – Three medals at the World Championships (one Gold, two Silver), plus a Bronze Medal and Silver Medal at the World Juniors Championship.

• Drew Doughty – Gold Medal (2010 Olympics), Silver Medal (World Championships), and Gold Medal (2008 World Juniors.)  Plus a Second team All Star in 2010, and Best Defenseman and All Star at the 2008 World Juniors.

• Jay Bouwmeester – 2003 and 2004 Gold Medals, plus a 2007 Silver Medal at the World Championships.  Plus the Gold Medal at the 2004 Canada/World Cup.  Plus two Bronze Medals (2000, 2001) and a Silver Medal (2002) at the World Juniors.  The World Championships best defenseman and All Star in 2004.

• Duncan Keith – 2010 Olympic Gold Medallist and a Silver Medal at the 2008 World Championships.  Two time Stanley Cup Champion (2010 and 2013) with the Chicago Blackhawks.

• Alex Pietrangelo – Gold Medal (2009) and Silver Medal (2010) from the World Juniors.

• PK Subban – two Gold Medals (2008, 2009) from the World Juniors, plus the 2013 Jack Norris Memorial Trophy winner.

• Shea Weber – 2010 Olympic Gold Medal, plus a Gold Medal (2007) and Silver Medal (2007) at the World Championships.  A Gold Medallist at the 2005 World Juniors.

• Marc Edouard Vlasic – plays for the San Jose Sharks.

Forwards

• Corey Perry – Gold Medal at the 2010 Olympics, and Gold Medal from the 2005 World Juniors.  2007 Stanley Cup Champion with Anaheim, selected to two All-Star games, and won both the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy and the Hart Memorial Trophy.

• Patrick Sharp – appeared at the 2011 All-Star game (and All-Star game MVP), plus the 2010 and 2013 Stanley Cup Championships with Chicago.  Led the 2013 playoffs in goals scored.

• Steven Stamkos – 2008 Gold Medal at the World Juniors, and the Silver Medal at the 2009 World Championships.  Two time Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard Trophy winner (2010, 2012), and two All-Star game appearances  (2011, 2012.)

• John Tavares – 2008 and 2009 Gold Medallist at the World Juniors.  Won three awards at the 2009 World Juniors:  All-Star, top forward, and MVP.

• Jonathan Toews – Five time Gold Medallist (Gold Medal at the 2010 Olympics, Gold Medal at the 2007 World Championships, 2006 and 2007 World Juniors, and the 2005 World U17 Hockey Championship.)  A silver medal from the 2008 World Championships.  Selected to three All-Star games, two time Stanley Cup Champion (2010 and 2013 with Chicago), Best froward at the 2010 Olympics, 2010 Conn Symthe award, 20103 Frank J. Selke award, 2007 World Juniors All Star.

• Jamie Benn – appeared in the 2012 All Star game, and won a Gold Medal in 2009 at the World Juniors.

• Patrice Bergeron – Four time Gold Medalist (2010 Olympics, 2004 World Championships, 2005 World Juniors, and 2012 Spengler Cup.)  2011 Stanley Cup Champion (with Boston.)  Won the Frank. J. Selke award in 2012, and King clancy Memorial Award in 2013.

• Jeff Carter – Gold Medal at the 2003 World U18 Championships, Silver Medal (2004), and Gold Medal (2005) from the World Juniors.  Won the Stanley Cup in 2012, and the Calder Cup in 2005.  Two World Juniors All Star teams (2004 and 2005.)

• Sidney Crosby – Silver Medal at the 2004 World Juniors, 2005 Gold Medal at the World Juniors, Gold Medal at the 2010 Olympics.  Scored the overtime winner in the Gold Medal game at the 2010 Olympics.  Won the 2007 Art Ross Trophy.  Four time All Star.  Won the Stanley Cup in 2009, and the Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard Trophy in 2010.  Two time winner of the Lester B. Pearson/Ted Lindsey Award.  At the 2006 World Juniors, he was the leading scorer, best forward, and selected to the All Star team.

• Matt Duchene – Gold Medal at the World U17 Hockey Championship, 2008 World U18 Championship, Gold Medal at the 2008 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, and Gold Medal at the 2012 Spengler Cup.  Played in the 2011 All Star game.

• Ryan Getzlaf – Gold at the 2003 World U18 Championships, Silver Medal (2004 and Gold Medal (2005) at the World Juniors, Gold Medal at the 2010 Olympics.  One time Stanley Cup champion (2007, with Anaheim.)  Plus two All Star games (2009 and 2009.)

• Chris Kunitz – Silver Medal at the 2008 World Championships.  Two time Stanley Cup Champion (2007 and 2009.)

• Patrick Marleau – Gold Medal at the 2004 World Cup, a Gold Medal (2005) and Silver Medal (2003) at the World Championships, and a Gold Medal from the 2010 Olympics.  Played in three All-Star games.  Holds several San Jose Sharks records.

• Rick Nash – Silver Medal from the 2002 World Juniors, Two Silver Medals (2005, 2008) and a Gold Medal (2007) at the World Championships, Gold Medal at the 2010 Olympics.  Mauric ‘Rocket’ Richard Trophy winner in 2004, and appeared in five All-Star games.  2007 World Championships  MVP.

All-in-all, Canada has assembled a very successful team.  Let’s hope they can win another Gold Medal at the Olympics.
