Today (March 8th, 2021) is Commonwealth Day in the countries that are members of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Commonwealth Day, celebrated on the second Monday of March throughout the Commonwealth, as its name suggests celebrates the Commonwealth.

Traditionally, in London, Queen Elizabeth II leads a celebration at Westminster Abbey on Commonwealth Day along with the Commonwealth Secretary-General, and the Commonwealth High Commissioners. Johnny Briggs has Passed Away

The actor Johnny Briggs, famous for his portrayal of Mike Baldwin on Coronation Street, has passed away at 85.

Christopher Plummer Passes Away at 91

Renowned Canadian actor Christopher Plummer has passed away at the age of 91.

Mr. Plummer was born in Toronto, Ontario on December 13th, 1929, but grew up in Senneville, Quebec.

He was well known as a Shakespearen actor, appearing at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and on Broadway, starring in many of Shakespeare’s plays, including Othello, Macbeth,The Tempest, King Lear, Henry V, Hamlet, Twelfth Night, The Winter’s Tale, Henry IV, Part 1, and Much Ado About Nothing. The Etobicoke Creek in Snow

Towards the end of the snowfall on January 26th, 2021, I decided to go for my daily walk and choose to go up on the trail beside the Etobicoke Creek.

Maple Leafs Legend George Armstrong has Passed Away at 90

George Armstrong, the four time Stanley Cup Champion Hall of Famer, and former Toronto Maple Leafs Captain, has passed away at the age of 90.

Mr. Armstrong was a Canadian whose heritage was part Irish and part Ojibway.  He would become one of the first hockey players of Indigenous descent and was nicknamed, the Chief.

Mr. Armstrong started out in hockey playing for the Stratford Kroehlers of the Ontario Hockey Association in 1947.  He was quickly promoted to the Toronto Marlboros the following year, where he would play until the 1950-1951 season when we was transferred to the Leaf’s American Hockey League team, the Pittsburgh Hornets. Hank Aaron has Passed Away at 86

Legendary baseball player Hank Aaron has passed away at the age of 86.

Mr. Aaron was a right fielder and played 23 season in the Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1954 to 1976.  He spent the majority of his career with the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves (1954-1974) of the National League, followed by a two year stint with the Milwaukee Brewers in the American League from 1975 to 1976.  He also played briefly with the Indianapolis Clowns of the Negro American League in 1952.  By the end of his career in the MLB, he was the last active player to have appeared in the Negro Leagues. Team Canada at the World Juniors

With the 2021 World Junior Championship completed with Team USA beating Team Canada 2-0, I’d like to look at Team Canada’s performance at the tournament.  With this tournament, the USA has won their 5th Gold Medal, and Canada has one it’s 10th Silver medal and 33 medals overall.

Since the beginning of the tournament in 1977, Team Canada has competed in all 44 tournaments, and has won 33 total medals: 18-19 Gold Medals, 9-10 Silver Medals, and 5 Bronze medals. Continue reading →
