As 2025 comes to a close I would like to review the year.
January
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces he plan to resign as Prime Minister upon his party selecting a new party leader.
Famed Director Otto Schenk passed away.
Donald Trump officially becomes the 45th and 47th President of the United States of America.
January also marked the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz.
February

I celebrated the 12th Anniversary of my site.

In Ontario, voters head to the polls and give Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives a third straight majority Government. The New Democratic Party (NDP) remains the Official Opposition and the Liberals regain official recognition in the Legislature.
March
I caught the ‘red moon‘ in March.
George Foreman passed away at 76.
Mark Carney is elected the new Liberal Party leader (March 9th), and becomes the 24th Prime Minister of Canada (March 14th) succeeding Justin Trudeau.

Hudson’s Bay Company announces it is filing for creditor protection and will close all but six stores. The company later goes bankrupt and is forced to close all of its’ stores.
April
VIA Rail’s flagship train The Canadian turned 70.

The Liberal party wins a fourth straight federal election but fall three seats short of an outright majority in the 2025 Canadian federal election and I wrote an entry about this: Impact of 2025 Election on Canadian Political Landscape
May
John Hogan becomes Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador on May 9th.
Pope Leo XIV is elected.
May marked the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.

King Charles III of Canada makes a brief visit to Canada and opens Parliament with the Speech from the Throne, becoming the first Monarch to do so since 1977.

2025 Stanley Cup Finals Set with the Florida Panthers taking on the Edmonton Oilers and the Panthers winning in six games.
June
Actress Loretta Swit, famous for her role as Margaret Houlihan in M*A*S*H, passed away at 87.

June 6th marked a decade of service for the Union Pearson Express in Toronto.
June 9th marked the 10th Anniversary of the passing of famed bandleader James Last.

July
July 1st marked Canada’s 158th birthday.
Five former members of Canada men’s national junior ice hockey team were acquitted of sexual assault following their trial stemming from an incident in 2018.
Famed wrestler Hulk Hogan passed away at the age of 71.
August
Canada celebrated 65 Years of the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights would go on to become the Charter of Rights and Freedoms found in the Canadian Constitution.
I attended the 2025 Warriors’ Day Parade at the CNE.
Wildfires break out in the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland and Labrador.
September
Chrystia Freeland resigns as an MP and the Minister of Transport and Internal Trade in order to become a special envoy to Ukraine.
Canada and Indonesia sign a free trade agreement.

Famed Canadian actor Graham Greene passed away at 73.
I discussed the possible expansion of the NHL from 32 to 36 teams.
Famed Canadian hockey player Ken Dryden passed away.
Opera star Siegmund Nimsgern passed away.

The CFL announced changes to their rules causing a lot of heated discussion about those changes.
The Toronto Blue Jays win American League East Division Title.
I finally passed 500 Subscribers on Youtube.
October
Dame Patricia Routledge passed away.

The Progressive Conservatives win a majority Government in the Newfoundland and Labrador general election.
I attended a performance of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice at the COC.
For the first time since 1993, the Toronto Blue Jays win the American League Championship Series, defeating the Seattle Mariners, and advance to the World Series.
The 2025 Nunavut general election takes place at the end of the month.
November
On November 1st, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays to win the 2025 World Series, earning them their ninth World Series title and becoming the first team to win consecutive World Series title since the 2000 New York Yankees in a seven game series with Game 7 going to extra innings.
The Yukon Party forms a majority Government following the 2025 Yukon general election.
Conservative MP Chris d’Entremont defected to the Liberals.
I attended the 103rd Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto.
The Beaver Full Moon:

The Pan American Health Organization revoked Canada’s measles-free status following the country’s failure to curb outbreaks of the disease over the past year.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops received 62 indigenous artifacts from the Vatican for repatriation after they were taken for a 1925 missionary exhibition.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders defeat the Montreal Alouettes to win the 112th Grey Cup.
December
Canada makes history when it becomes the first non-European Union member state to join the Security Action for Europe fund.
On December 4th, John Rustad – the leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia – resigns after facing a revolt from the party.
Santa Claus arrived in south Etobicoke on December 6th:
The Yukon Territory–Alaska border is rocked by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake.
I attended the2025 Etobicoke-Lakeshore Santa Claus Parade.
On December 7th, the Finch West LRT opens in Toronto.
On December 11th, Conservative MP Michael Ma defects to the Liberals, leaving the Liberals one seat short a majority Government.
During the course the year, many events were ongoing, including:
The Gaza war, which includes a famine and a humanitarian crisis, continued throughout the year, as did the Sudanese civil war and Russian invasion of Ukraine.
American President Donald Trump continued throughout the year with a number of tariffs, actual and threatened, throughout the year against many countries.
