The 2024 UEFA European Football Championship (Euro 2024) opens today with Germany hosting the event. This is the 17th edition of the tournament.
24 countries are represented with Georgia making their debut.
Italy is the defending Champions after beating England in a shootout in the Euro 2020 tournament (held in 2021 due to the pandemic.)
The most successful countries in the history of the tournament are Germany and Spain with three titles each. The defending champions, Italy, and France are the next most successful countries with two titles each.
Germany was voted the host of the tournament in 2017. This is the third time that Germany has hosted the Euro tournament – the first time was in 1988 (West Germany at the time) and as one of the hosts of the 2020 tournament.
